Berry crop protection & nutrition from Vegalab.

Natural disease, pest and nutrition programs for soft fruit: strawberries, blueberries and cane fruit.

Berries with Vegalab

Berries are soft, perishable, fresh-market crops that demand clean, residue-free control of Botrytis, powdery mildew, mites and aphids. Vegalab's natural programs are designed for zero pre-harvest and re-entry interval where registered.

What the berry crops have in common

Soft fruit is high value per hectare, perishable within days, and picked repeatedly rather than once. Those three facts drive the whole management programme. Because harvest is a series of passes rather than a single event, there is rarely a clean interval in which to apply anything - the pre-harvest interval on a crop being picked twice a week is a genuine constraint on what can be used at all, not a technicality.

Botrytis is the defining disease of the group. It infects at flowering, stays latent through fruit development and expresses after picking, which means the loss is discovered by the buyer rather than in the field, and the decisive treatment window closed weeks earlier. Protecting bloom rather than reacting to visible rot is the single most important habit in berry disease management.

Under protection - and most high-value berry production now is, at least partly - spider mites and thrips become the dominant pests, because the enclosed environment excludes the predators that would otherwise arrive on their own and accelerates the pest's generation time. Yield is also directly pollination-limited: misshapen strawberries and small, seedy blueberries are usually a pollination failure rather than a nutritional one, and are frequently misdiagnosed as the latter.
