Controlled-environment crop protection & nutrition from Vegalab.

Natural pest, disease and nutrition programs for cannabis and hemp grown indoors, in greenhouses and in the field.

Controlled Environment with Vegalab

Cannabis and hemp are high-value crops where a clean, residue-free finish is essential and where mites, powdery mildew and Botrytis move fast in protected environments. Vegalab's plant-extracted actives fit low-residue, IPM-friendly programs with zero pre-harvest and re-entry interval where registered.

What growing under cover changes

A controlled environment removes the weather as a variable and, in doing so, removes the free pest control that came with it. Nothing arrives on its own - but neither do the predators, the rain that washes spore loads off leaves, nor the cold that ends a generation. A mite or thrips population that would be checked outdoors compounds instead, and a problem that would take a season to build outside can take a fortnight inside.

The pest list is short and consistent: two-spotted spider mite, western flower thrips, whitefly, aphids, and fungus gnats in the root zone. Powdery mildew is the dominant disease, favoured by exactly the warm, still, humid conditions that otherwise suit the crop. Because the same few species recur under continuous cropping with no break, selection pressure for resistance is intense - rotating modes of action matters more here than almost anywhere else.

Residue scrutiny is also unusually tight. These crops are commonly tested at point of sale to a standard that field crops are not, so what may be applied, and how close to harvest, is often set by the testing regime rather than by the label alone. Short cycles and high value per square metre mean the cost of getting it wrong is concentrated, and a single failed test can take out an entire batch.
